LGBT Advocacy
Group was
prayerfully launched in July 2007. Our contact group of
approximately 60 persons is open to all those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered or questioning of sexual
identity, as well as family and friends of those persons who believe
in opening our doors of welcome to all persons who may feel excluded
in other churches. We serve
primarily as an advocacy group.
Adopted
in July 2008, our reconciling statement is:
"God's
grace is available to all, and all persons are individuals of sacred
worth. The following groups of the UMCWFB seek to live together in
Christian community, welcoming all Christian seekers and believers
regardless of age, gender, race, sexual orientation, gender
identity, social or economic status, physical or mental ability."
The LGBT Advocacy group has hosted a film festival, a national
touring exhibit of same sex couples in committed relationships, has
participated as welcomers to Pride Fest festival goers, and as
walkers in the lakefront AIDS Walk. In October 2009 we provided
worship leadership for "Inclusiveness Sunday".
LGBT Advocacy,
Library Guild, Church & Society and Dialogue are small groups in our
church that belong to Reconciling Ministries Network |
