*Entrée

Wesley Room
Jan. 11 - Mar. 14, 2012
6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

We launched Entrée last fall to great reviews, so we are offering again! Come to engage in lively conversation as you pursue basic questions of faith such as ‘How do you understand God?’, ‘Did Jesus see himself as Messiah?’ Facilitated by a lay and clergy team. Contact Loretto Steinmetz or Pastor Wiley for more information or to register.

Testimonial from fall participant in Entrée:
"I joined the Entree group with the thought of 'dipping' into questions that I've longed had regarding my Christian faith as well as about Methodist traditions and history. The presented material each week was thought-provoking and interesting, and the format lended itself to so much more than a 'question/answer' type classroom experience. The discussions were relaxed and easy. I looked forward each week to some new insight that truly helped me to better understand my own faith experience as well as excite me to learn and continue my journey. Entree provided an opportunity for me to learn and grow, and identify more fully with my Christian faith. I heartily recommend this class."

  *Joseph: How God Builds Character
Room 225

February 1 - March 14

6:30 - 7:30 pm

The power of Biblical stories lies in their ability to speak to us in our own way, as God’s dealings with persons in the past resonate with our experiences today. Covering the last 14 chapters of Genesis, this is the story of Jacob’s favored son, sold by jealous brothers into slavery and rising to become a powerful ruler in Egypt. We will look at how God’s hand was upon Joseph as part of God’s chosen family, the pain of family conflict and frustrated dreams, the importance of faithfulness in the face of adversity. Books are $8 and can be purchased the first night of class. Facilitated by Brian Sigmon.
  *Interpreting Tough Bible Passages
Chapel

April 18 , 25, and May 2

6:30 - 8:30 pm

Many passages in the Bible are either difficult to understand or are interpreted in many different ways. All Christian denominations believe in the same Bible, but each tradition takes certain passages as more important than others, thus arriving at different conclusions. Are there verses or passages you would like to discuss? Bring them with you. And, we will look at some of the difficult passages that continue to divide thoughtful Christians.
Examples:

Jesus said, “So therefore, none of you can become my disciple if you do not give up all your possessions.” Luke 14:33

“Wives, be subject to your husbands...” Ephesians 5:22

“And I heard the number of those who were sealed (saved), 144,000...”Revelation 7:4

Facilitated by Pastor Emeritus Dick Jones.
