Position:  Principal Organist; 10 hours per week

Team Leader:  Director of Music and Fine Arts

Supervisory Responsibility:  none

 

Position Summary:  The organist duties include all service music for two Sunday services, currently scheduled at 8:00 a.m. (in the chapel) and 10:30 a.m. (in the sanctuary).  In addition, there are the usual church holidays and annual choral/orchestral Sundays.  The organist will also serve as the accompanist to the Chancel Choir, our 45-member adult choir.  The Chancel Choir rehearses on Wednesday evening from 7:30-9:00 and sings weekly in the 10:30 Sunday service.  When the director of music is on vacation, the organist may be asked to lead the choir in rehearsals and services.  The United Methodist Church of Whitefish Bay currently serves approximately 1500 members.

 

Responsibilities: 

1.      Play preludes, offertories, postludes, and hymns for the 8:00 worship service in the chapel on an electronic Allen organ.

2.      Play preludes, offertories, postludes, and hymns for the 10:30 worship service in the sanctuary on a Schantz pipe organ.

3.      Accompany the 45-member adult choir at Wednesday night rehearsals from 7:30-9:00 and in the 10:30 Sunday worship services; the choir does not meet in the summer

4.      Accompany soloists as needed

5.      Serve as substitute conductor when the Music Director is on vacation

6.      Play for additional seasonal services, including Holy Week and Christmas Eve

 

Qualifications:

1.      A bachelor’s degree in music is required

2.      Previous church experience is highly recommended

1.      Commensurate with education and experience
