Who is a
Companion Minister? |
A companion is someone who
visits and is compassionate and caring towards one older adult that
is homebound. Companions will visit their homebound member about
once/week for 1-2 hours depending upon the personal situation. Some
caregivers may spend the longer period of time in the home, thus
freeing the primary caregiver for respite time away. You will be
letting that church member know that they are important and not
forgotten by our church family. |

Once you have received training that lasts for 2
hours you will be assigned to one senior adult who has agreed to
have a companion come to their home. The training will offer
helpful suggestions for getting to know the personal history, likes
and interests of your homebound member and how to spend meaningful
time with them on each visit. Companions will also gather as a
group here at church 4 times yearly to share their experiences,
offer mutual support, have ‘ mini’ training on a separate topic
each time, and close with brief worship. |

The next training sessions are scheduled for Monday
March 7, 6:30-8:30 pm and Thursday March 10 from 3-5 pm in room 216
and will be led by Richard Whitaker. You can choose to attend
either training that suits your schedule. The spring gathering of
all companions will take place on Monday May 16 from 6:30-8:30 pm.
