Urban Family Bible Camp

Sunday - Tuesday July 11-13, 2010

5:30 - 8:30 pm

Located in Riverside Park

Join us this summer for a NEW and EXCITING bible camp experience for the whole FAMILY!!!  Invite a neighbor or friend to come too!

Evening Camp without leaving town or sleeping outside! The entire family is invited to come to the beautiful Urban Ecology Center and have fun, grow in faith and learn together!

All ages will gather together for Bible stories of creation around an outdoor campfire; make nature related crafts, play a family game of softball, climb the outdoor tower & rock wall, get up close & personal with all kinds of critters on display, and learn ways to live greener lives. Sunday evening "kick-off" will be a potluck supper - bring a dish to share.  On Monday and Tuesday evenings, families are encouraged to bring their own picnic supper.

Make plans to be there all three nights OR come for 1 or more evenings.  The cost is $30 per evening/family or $85 for all three nights.  For more information and FAQ see below.

Frequently Asked Questions about the NEW Family Bible Camp:

1.  Can I send my child alone?  No, each child must be with a responsible adult such as parent, grandparent, adult neighbor as this is a Family experience.

2.  We can only come one night, is that ok?  Absolutely, come as your schedule allows!

3.  What if my child goes to bed early?  That’s ok, leave as your schedule dictates, remembering that is  not dark until 8:30 pm.

4.  What if we cannot arrive by 5:30? That’s ok, too; the rotational activities do not begin until 6:30 on Sunday and 6:10 Monday and Tuesday.  Join in when you get there!

5.  Are there activities for my preschoolers?  Absolutely!  Many things are family friendly for all ages, some will be geared younger.

6.  What if it rains?  About !/2 of the activities are indoors and we can even do an indoor campfire in their fireplace room.

7.  What to wear?  Wear  camp clothes and comfortable shoes.  Have a poncho in case of inclement weather.

8.  How do the meals work?  There will be a "Kick-off Potluck Dinner" on Sunday.   If your last name begins with A-H bring some kind of main or side dish, I-O a salad, and P-Z a dessert.  Bring your own sack dinner on Monday & Tuesday (try using ecology-friendly reusable containers).  Drinks are provided but please bring your own reusable cups and/or water bottles.  We do this to keep faith with their mission of reuse and recycle everything possible and avoid throw-aways.

9.   What about the rock climbing wall?  It is restricted to those Sr. K and older with about 30 being able to participate.  A separate fee of $10 must be paid at UEC when you also will be required to sign their own liability waiver. You will, however, indicate your desire to climb the wall when you register, so their staff can be alerted in advance how many to expect.

10.  What will we learn?  The curriculum  is called RENEW and focuses upon the Parable of the Sower.  There are songs, Bible stories, craft activities all related to this New Testament parable.  You will also learn from the UEC staff how to be more environmentally friendly in your daily lives, and you will learn about the abundant flora and fauna found in Riverside Park.
