Offering support when you're caring for those who first cared for you

Last year, a new group called the "Sandwich Generation" was formed in our church, designed to serve persons who are “sandwiched” between having children at home and elderly parents who need care and support. Together we found we could care for each other by sharing stories and experiences, raising questions and getting feedback from others who'd faced similar circumstances, and hearing from expert guest speakers who spoke on topics including legal and financial matters for the elderly, spiritual issues we all face as we age, how to help parents continue to live safely in their homes, and where to look for help if they can no longer take care of themselves.

We know "Sandwich Generation" people are busy juggling responsibilities for their own families and careers as well as loving and caring for their parents or other relatives, so we try not to waste anyone's time. We solicit feedback from attendees about what topics they'd like covered, and this fall we're developing a helpful "lending library" of articles, books, and videos that people may borrow.

Anyone is welcome at "Sandwich Generation" meetings, whether they are church members or not. We usually meet once a month, on a Tuesday.

For more information, contact a member of the "Sandwich Generation" planning team: Robin Mosleth, Steve Mortonson, or Bill Crise, or Pastor Janet.
