Sunday Mornings 10:30 am

February 1  Public Policy Advocacy: exploring the What, Why and

How of Advocacy

February 8  1st half of A Closer Walk

This film was the first to depict humankind’s confrontation with the global AIDS epidemic. The director and producer, Robert Bilheimer, is an Academy Aware nominee. Over 50 people are interviewed or profiled from around the world. The underlying causes of AIDS are explored in the film, including the relationship between health, dignity and human rights, and the universal need for action, compassion and commitment to counter the disease.

February 15 2nd half of A Closer Walk

February 22  Karen Bauer (sister of Randy Nash) has worked in

Kenya on projects which improve living conditions for widows and orphans affected by the AIDS epidemic. AIDS is creating orphans in such large numbers that family structures can no longer manage. Due to cultural traditions, some widows and orphans are displaced upon the death of the husband/ father, and need shelter. Karen will describe the project she has developed, and some of the cultural conditions in Kenya which contribute to difficulties there.
